Spray Paint Fail

Postby beckyfever » Fri Mar 05, 2010 6:22 pm

Home Depot only sells one brand of spray paint. Rustoleum. I wanted Krylon, and the employee working treated me like an idiot for asking for it and said Rustoleum is better, giving me this whole speech about the virtues of Rustoleum and asking questions about Krylon like it was from another planet. "The only problem you might have with rustoleum is it might work too well, so test it on a small area first to make sure it doesn't melt your surface!""Are you sure Krylon would work for that type of project?""Krylon is a Wal-mart Brand..." <-- said with loathing, like HD is that much better.

I have used rustoleum in the past and was disappointed, but i bought a can anyway. At the register I asked if I could return the can if it didn't work for my project, the employee looked at me like I was crazy, but said as long as you have a receipt you shouldn't have any problems. I used a little of the spray paint to test how it was going to work, and it looked crappy. I bought their fanciest looking can of metallic silver, and it came out looking kind of gray with a slight sheen *YES I SHOOK THE CAN*.... I took it back and the return people would not take it. They said there are no returns on paints. So that was a waste of time and six bucks.

I also hate that whenever I need help in there, there is not a damn employee to be found, but if I obviously know what I am looking for, they won't leave me alone.

A separate experience: My husband and I bought travertine tiles for our bathroom from HD. When we were purchasing them we asked if they would be able to cut the stone for us. The person helping us said yes, of course. When we bought our backerboard, we asked the guy working at contractor services if they would cut our stone tiles. He also said yes. When we laid out our tiles and marked them up for cutting, we returned to this very same store, and asked the less than amiable girl now standing in contractor services who we should talk to about getting the 50 lbs of tiles we were carrying cut. She stared at us blankly, and after a lengthy telephone conversation said "Yeah, thats what I thought. We don't do that here, we never have. You can buy a saw from us if you want." I told her there must be a mistake because on two previous occasions we had been reassured that they would be able to help us. She responded shortly with "Well the store on garrissonville road will rent you a saw, do you know where that is?"

We left, and became so disheartened that my bathroom still only has a backerboard floor. :(
